A church must understand the flow of the times. This does not mean following trends. We must understand what the current era demands and move forward with those changes. The digital civilization of our time is rapidly advancing, and we are living in a new world every day. The digital civilization has become a part of our lives beyond just utilizing the internet. While the world continues to develop and change, church culture remains stagnant. The church that used to lead culture is now falling behind culture.
The church must be able to worship anytime, anywhere, and in any way. To do so, efforts must be made to keep up with the changing times.
Perhaps the Korean church has hindered 'worship of life' by placing restrictions on the church as a physical location. Online worship and ministry carried out due to COVID-19 has transformed the faith of believers from a spatial concept of "church" to a focus on the heart. Ministry carried out in the church has also changed to allow for coexistence between the physical and online realms. In the process of these changes, many pastors were concerned about the weakening of their understanding of worship.
However, the essence of worship is what is important. The form has always been subject to change within the limits of preserving the essence. Ministry based on online platforms does not disrupt the essence of worship but changes the form. However, online ministry is not a perfect alternative. We have faced difficulties and experienced limitations in conducting online ministry. It is not enough to promote believers' faith growth through online ministry alone. A proper balance between the physical and online realms is necessary.
This study investigates the essence of worship and aim to answer the question, 'Is online worship really appropriate in this era?' through an online-based worship and ministry conducted at Gwangju Yangrim Church. It is hoped that this study will serve as a guide for churches and pastors who are considering online ministry.

교회는 시대의 흐름에 민감해야 한다. 유행을 따라가야 한다는 것이 아니다. 시대가 요구하는 것이 무엇인지를 파악하고 그 변화에 발맞추어 나아가야 한다. 지금 우리는 디지털 문명의 급속한 발전으로 날마다 새로운 세상을 살아가고 있다. 디지털 문명은 단순히 인터넷을 활용하는 시대를 넘어서 우리의 삶의 전부가 되었다. 세상은 계속해서 발전하고 변해가는데 교회는 여전히 제자리이다. 예전에는 문화를 이끌어왔던 교회가 이제는 문화에 뒤쳐져 있다. 교회는 언제나, 어디서나, 어떻게든 삶의 자리에서 예배해야 한다. 그러기 위해서는 변화하는 시대에 발맞춰 나가려는 노력이 필요하다.
어쩌면 이제까지 한국교회는 교회라는 장소에 제약을 두고 삶의 예배를 막아왔다. 코로나 19로 인해 진행된 온라인 예배와 사역은 성도들의 신앙을 '교회'라는 장소적인 개념에서 마음의 중심으로 변화시켰다. 그리고 교회에서 이뤄지는 사역도 현장 중심에서 현장과 온라인이 공존할 수 있도록 변화시켰다. 이러한 변화의 과정에서 많은 목회자들이 예배에 대한 인식이 약화될까 고민하였다. 중요한 것은 예배의 본질이다. 형태는 본질이 손상되지 않은 범위에서 언제든 변화되어 왔다. 온라인을 기반으로 한 사역은 예배의 본질을 흐트러트리는 것이 아니라 형태를 변화시켜 가는 것이다. 그러나 온라인 사역이 완벽한 대안이 아니다. 온라인 사역을 진행해 오면서 어려움에 직면해왔고, 한계점도 경험하였다. 온라인 사역만으로는 성도들의 신앙을 성장시킬 수 없다. 현장과 온라인의 적절한 균형이 필요하다.
이 연구에서는 예배의 본질에 대해 살펴보고, 광주양림교회에서 진행했던 온라인 기반의 예배와 사역들을 통해 온라인 예배를 통해서 이 시대에 온라인 예배가 과연 옳은것인가? 하는 질문에 답을 하고자 했다. 본 논문이 온라인 사역에 대해 고민하며 준비하고 있는 교회와 목회자들에게 온라인 사역의 방향을 결정할 수 있는 방안이 되길 기대해본다.
