Trauma-Informed Care, Recovery, and the Authentic Self: A Practical Book for Spiritually Informed Communities
| abstract |
This work is a paradigm for spiritually based and/or spiritually aware organizations to engage in the process of trauma recovery by providing trauma informed care through direct care, programming, awareness, and education. Focused on education and praxis, this paradigm is developed upon the concern of the Authentic Self in recovery and the neurobiological protection of the it as experienced by traumatized persons as well as the ontological issues of identity and being which are often associated with brokenness in trauma. Addressing these facets of trauma recovery in the centers and with those who care for the soul thus provide faith communities and spiritual leaders a prodigious opportunity to be a source of healing and support to traumatized persons if they will endeavor to understand the power of the brain in protecting the soul, address the historical and current abuses within spirituality, and witness to the overwhelming effects of trauma on the mind and body while affirming the beauty and resiliency of the soul.
