The purpose of this study is to prove how the Bible and prayer have influenced the spiritual formation of Korean Christianity throughout the history of Korean Christianity. In the early days of the mission in Korea, the Bible and prayer that shaped Korean Christian spirituality were biased by the spirit of the times, which was driven by the social, economic, cultural, and national policies of that time. If the spirit of the age is the guiding spirit of that time, spirituality is a constant that can add value or transform the spirit of that time. However, it is rather degraded. The reason for this was the separation of the Bible and prayer, which formed an integral part of spiritual formation. This pattern of contradictory spiritual formation has been well illustrated in the Korean church history. Korean Christian spirituality was gradually biased during the Japanese colonial period and the Korean War. And due to the national policies for post-war recovery and economic development plans, Korean Christian spirituality has been submerged in materialism and prosperity. As a result, Korean Christian spirituality became individual, subjective, and mystical.

In preparing this project, I realized the need to re-establish a balanced, holistic spirituality from a biblical, theological, and community perspective to overcome the biased spiritual formation of the past years. It is possible when two of the most important elements of spiritual formation, the Bible and prayer, are unified and not separated.

Through this project, we aim to globalize Tong Bible School as an alternative to Christian education in the 21st century, which combines the two keys to spiritual formation, the Bible and prayer, to prevent bias. I hope to establish a generation of Tong Bible followers who confidently proclaim that "one Bible is enough."

이와 같은 연구의 동기는 성경과 기도가 한국 기독교의 영성 형성에 어떤 영향을 끼쳤는지 한국 기독교사를 통해 밝혀냈기 때문이다. 선교초기 한국 기독교의 영성을 주도했던 성경과 기도는 당시 사회, 경제, 문화와 국가의 정책에 따라 주도된 시대 정신에 의해 좌우되었다. 시대 정신이 그 세상의 흐름을 지배하는 정신이라면 영성은 그 시대 정신에 가치를 부여하고 변혁시킬 수 있는 상수가 되어야 하는데 오히려 변질된 것이다. 이유는 통전적 영성 형성을 이루는 성경과 기도가 이원화 되었기 때문이다. 이 잘못된 영성 형성은 한국 교회사에 잘 나타나 있다. 일제시대와 한국전쟁을 겪으면서 조금씩 편향되어 갔고 전후 복구를 위한 국가정책과 경제개발계획에 맞물린 시대정신에 의해 기독교 영성은 물질주의와 기복적 신앙에 함몰되어 개인적, 주관적, 신비적 영성으로 퇴락 하였다.

본 논문을 준비하며, 지난날의 편향된 영성 형성을 극복하기 위해 성서적, 신학적, 공동체적 관점 속에서 균형 잡힌 통전적 영성을 다시 형성해야 됨을 알게 되었다. 이것은 영성 형성의 가장 중요한 두 요소인 성경과 기도를 이원화하지 않고 하나로 묶어 통전성을 유지할 때 가능하다.

본 연구를 통하여 영성 형성의 두 핵에 해당하는 성경과 기도가 편향되지 않도록 통으로 묶어낼 21세기 기독교교육의 대안인 통성경학교가 세계화를 이루어 “성경 한 권이면 충분하다”라고 고백하는 통성경세대가 세워지길 기대한다.
