title Mobilization: Solidarity through Anti-Racist Training
abstract So much of anti-racist work at this point in American history has been directed at white people who often trip over their own racism whether realizing it or not. Deservedly, there has been so much concern about white privilege and fragility. This work goes beyond those concerns. In this professional paper my focus is on how to motivate black clergy to find each other, support each other, and then activate their churches and larger communities in this new period of the struggle for racial justice. We motivate through building relationships, and then offer a pedagogy for black pastors to educate themselves so they can activate their communities. Community organizing is at the heart of education, and identifying the focus for activism and educating people on policy matters will help to mobilize black clergy. Society's racist structures are the problem, and it is imperative to better understand those structures in order to dismantle them. Inspiring, motivating, and educating black clergy then become essential to help them mature into faith activists in the public square. In this work I focus on the matter of redistricting in New Jersey, as this D.Min. project led me to work with Salvation and Social Justice, which gave me an avenue to illustrate the mobilization of black clergy toward racial justice advocacy in the public square.
