The Tong Bible for the education of the next generation: A Case of High School of Healing Church in Korea

Due to COVID-19, church youth ministries have faced problems that have never experienced before. In particular, the problems and limitations in young generation education have been clearly identified. After COVID-19, many churches have switched to non-face-to-face services, which have resulted them to invest their budget for broadcasting space and equipment. According to this change in ministry field, educational ministers had to learn skills for filming and video editing, and make videos by using their time for Bible study and sermon. Though facing strange and challenging task, they devoted themselves with the faith and hope that it would be rewarding as much as they had suffered. The result, however, was a failure. It was not due to the lack of video editing skills or inability to find contents fitting to youth, but due to the education itself. If youth ministries continue current system that has lasted for several decades, which is mainly consisted of biblical recitation and cramming style of bible study workbook that has the main purpose for just biblical information, young generation will not show any interest in education even though church provides them with high quality videos that contain youth popular contents. The main concern of this study is to introduce 'Tong-Bible study,' and suggests that how it appropriately functions as the new alternative of education. This paper also suggests the reason why 'Tong-Bible study' is suitable for the new educational alternative with describing several educations for the young generation: one-point education, which links home to church, Havruta education, All-line education (using both online and offline education), and storytelling education. This research is expected to give positive effect for church and parents, who are struggling with next generation faith crisis, to transmit faith successfully.
