"We must learn to measure the sociological performance of our theological convictions." (Dr. Christena Cleveland)
The following work is formatted as a study guide that addresses the tragic outcomes of anti-gay theology, asks questions pertaining to hermeneutics, social location, and any theological premise that leads to devastating consequences for God's beloved children. Each chapter examines the anti-gay rhetoric from famous Christian leaders, follows their toxic theology to its heart-wrenching conclusions, and makes space for the voices of the oppressed who are begging us to find a better picture of God. Following each chapter is an Interlude, which gives us time to pause and reflect on a series of questions that are best discussed in groups either during or after one has done their exegesis of the scriptures. The intended audience for this study guide includes pastors, parishioners, peers and parents of our LGBTQ+ friends.
