Evangelism with Six Atonement Stories: A Case Study of Gumijeja Church, Gumi, Korea
| abstract |
This study was begun with the hope of reviving and renewing Korean churches
from a stagnation that has been continued since the 1990s. Most of all, Gumijeja church
which I serve has a small number of believers. It was in dire need of revival and renewal.
Thus, I started this study with a desperate desire.
Studying at the evangelism of Korean churches, there were many cases where
they did not have contentable results considering the time and the money invested. New
families that first came to the church mostly ended in one-offs. Moreover, the families
who newly registered with the church did not attend continuously and often dropped out
of faith halfway. This resulted in failure of the church revival.
Therefore, the purpose of this study is to overcome the stagnation of Korean
churches and to present concrete alternatives for revival and renewal. To achieve the goal,
I first searched for the causes of the first century church revival recorded in Acts.
Secondly, I tried to help people understand the meaning and purpose of evangelism by
presenting theological basis based on the Bible and related books. Finally, I have
researched God's heart and Jesus Christ revealed throughout the Bible in order to provide
a basis for the necessity and direction of the revival and renewal of Korean churches.
The result of this study was named "Evangelism with Six Atonement Stories." It
is an evangelism that preaches the God's heart to save all mankind which is revealed in
the entire Bible, from Genesis to Revelation. It is also the evangelism that preaches Jesus
Christ, the Savior of all mankind revealed in the entire Bible. And it is the evangelism
that preaches the gospel by obeying God's commands revealed throughout the Bible.
From April 2019 to February 2020, I have continued to deliver "Evangelism with
Six Atonement Stories" during my Sunday sermons, six weeks of intensive training, and
the first week's Bible meeting. It was a short time, but the members came to understand
God's heart and Jesus Christ deeply. They are enjoying the pleasure of evangelism and
are changing from passive evangelists to active and voluntary evangelists. I sincerely
hope that this study can contribute as one of the means to helping the revival and renewal
of Korean churches.
