Be Still and Know that I am God: Parish as Spiritual Life Center
| abstract |
In 2014, The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Our Saviour stated as a priority the spiritual
growth of its members. This paper reviews briefly the definitions of spirituality, its history and
biblical foundations. It establishes through research that specialists do agree that the parish is the
primary context for spiritual growth and that worship is the primary context in which this takes
place. Further research looks into how this growth occurs within the life of the parish. It finishes
with a look at what activities/experiences within the life of The Evangelical Lutheran Church of
Our Saviour enhance spiritual growth as defined and stated by eight specific members of the
congregation. Of importance to them, are worship experiences outside of Sunday morning
worship and fellowship opportunities.
