title | "Balm of Hurt Minds...Chief Nourisher of Life's Feast": The Tripartite Healing Nature of Dreams |
abstract | This dissertation surveys the separate areas of dream studies to unify as well as confirm the tripartite physical, psychological,
and spiritual healing nature of dreams from what the ancients knew to contemporary scientific research in order to illustrate the necessity of harmonizing these key
elements, so they work together to effect better, healthier lives. Such an inclusive, collective approach to the study of dreams is necessary to redress the
compartmentalization inherent in any therapeutic field of research subject to overspecialization. As a result, it illustrates and underscores the importance of the
interdisciplinary core at the heart of the Medical Humanities Program and of the Caspersen School of Graduate Studies. Consequently, through such an incorporative
study of dreams, the timeworn concept of "a healthy mind in a healthy body" is augmented by the inclusion of a healthy spirit. |
